Should I Choose an All-Inclusive Resort for my Honeymoon?

If you’ve started browsing the internet for destinations and resort options for your honeymoon, it’s likely that you’ve come across the phrase “all-inclusive.”  So what exactly does all-inclusive mean to you and should you choose an all-inclusive resort for your honeymoon?  As a basic definition, all-inclusive resorts include everything in one pre-paid price.  We’ve talking food, drinks (including alcohol!), activities, and accommodations.  You may be thinking, heck yes, sign me up!  But it’s important to consider your honeymooning style to determine if all-inclusive is the best choice for you.  We’ll guide  you through the pros and cons of all-inclusive vs. non all-inclusive vacations to help you make a decision and narrow your honeymoon planning focus.

All-Inclusive Pros:

1. One Price.  When you book an all-inclusive resort, you pre-pay for your trip up front and really don’t have to think about money at all during your honeymoon.  Rather then remember your wallet for every meal, each drink you order on the beach, and all the times you’re ready to go snorkeling, you can just enjoy the experience instead of worrying about the cash. Plus these things can all begin to add up quickly! With all-inclusives tips are  also already taken care of, so no more pulling soggy dollar bills out of your pocket.  All-inclusives allow you to set a budget, work with a travel agent to book a resort that fits that budget, and then not have to worry about blowing it for extra unexpected splurges.

2. Simple.  All-inclusive honeymoons are normally a simpler trip that are very low stress to plan.  Basically you choose your destination, pick the resort, determine the room category, and you’re done!  Rather then worry about picking a destination that has enough activities and dining options in the area to keep you happy and entertained, you can be assured your all-inclusive will have everything that you need.  After a detail rich wedding planning experience, a simple, but luxurious honeymoon can be a breath of fresh air!

3. Adult Only.  You’ll find a greater number of all-inclusive resorts that cater to an adult-only crowd then your average non all-inclusive resort.  Sandals, Couples, and Secrets are a few all-inclusives that you can choose, confident that you won’t have kids chasing the seagulls, or babies crying in the dining room.  It’s something you may not think about before getting there and then realize how much kids can take away from the romance of your stay.

All-Inclusive Cons:

1. Possible Boredom.  If you’re a couple that finds enjoying a frozen drink on the beach, swimming in the pool, and dining in on-site restaurants monotonous rather then relaxing, then an all-inclusive may not be the choice for you.  When you’ve already paid a price that includes on-site food and drink, you may feel a kind of “guilt” if you decide to leave the property to enjoy a meal or activity off-site, so you end up staying put.

2. Limited Authentic Travel. Couples that are interested in immersing themselves in the culture and people of the destination that they are visiting may be disappointed by a less then “authentic” experience at an all-inclusive.  It really depends on what you are looking for!  If your ideal honeymoon includes exploring the landscape, trying out the local cuisine, and experiencing the culture, then you’re better off booking an amazing resort, but without the all-inclusive price tag.

As you can see all-inclusive resorts provide advantages and disadvantages, and there is no clear cut answer as to which style is better.  It all has to do with your budget and your preferences for the ideal honeymoon.  This is your once-in-a-lifetime trip, and your chance to make an amazing first travel memory as a married couple – make it count!
