When is the Best Time to Book Your Honeymoon?

You’re newly engaged and have jumped head first into wedding planning, but you may not be sure when is the best time to book your honeymoon.  It’s a question that I often hear from newly engaged couples.  Many are often surprised to find out that I suggest that it’s best to book your honeymoon 9-12 months in advance.  As soon as you’ve decided on a wedding date, and booked your venue, the next major decision should be finalizing your honeymoon plans.

Why so early you may ask?  Maybe you’ve heard the rumor that you can get last minute travel deals if you wait.  I’m here to tell you that is false.  If a room at a resort is available a month ahead of your travel dates, you need to be asking yourself why the resort is not already booked up.  From my experience, it’s likely a resort that is not going to be the best fit for a luxury honeymoon!  There are multiple advantages to booking your honeymoon early.

Here are our 8 Top Reasons to Book Your Honeymoon Now:

1. Flight Availability –  Many exotic destinations only have one flight available per day, especially with airlines cutting flight schedules.  If that flight is sold out, you’re going to have to be flexible with your travel dates, or consider a flight plan with multiple connections, rather than the ideal nonstop flight.

2. Booking Discounts – You’re actually more likely to receive discounts on your booking by making your reservations early rather than late.  These discounts can go as high as 30% off!

3. Unique Rooms – If you’re considering a “millionaire’s suite” or other super-amazing penthouse style suite, most resorts only have one or two of these available, and they sell out FAST!

4. Boutique Resorts – If a small, boutique resort is your st

yle with highly personal service and only 12 suites on site, you’re going to want to book that baby quick!

5. Payment Plans – By booking early you’re going to have much longer to pay off your trip.  Most resorts and packages require only a minimum deposit to make your booking, with your final payment due about 2 months before your travel dates.

6. Excursion Availability –  Be sure to get that special swimming with the dolphins experience, or catamaran trip to the hot springs.  Popular tours and excursions should be finalized as soon as possible after your resort or destination is booked.

7. Wedding Checklist … Check! – By booking your honeymoon early you’re able to check off a huge item on your wedding planning checklist.  Weddings can be a full time job!  By taking care of the honeymoon early now you’ve got more time to devote to your Pinterest boards – you know you’re excited!

8. It’s fun! – Planning a honeymoon is fun!  Who doesn’t like day dreaming about exotic tropical destinations and relaxing on the beach?  Much better than analyzing seating charts or addressing invitations.
